“Underdog” Levi still out to prove people wrong

Devon Levi has billed himself a “pro” at quarantining. After all, the 19-year-old goaltender has spent the equivalent of two months in isolation since November.

Levi has kept busy during this time with homework, reading, and exercising, among other activities. He has also had ample time to reflect on Team Canada’s silver-medal showing at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Edmonton a few short weeks ago.

“At first, after that last game in the finals, nothing really had been processed yet,” said Levi. “As a team, we were just mad that we let the gold medal slip out of our hands. At the time, I didn’t see all the positives that happened throughout the tournament. Looking back on it now, it’s really cool to see how everything turned out, how much I learned and how much fun I had. I know I’ll be looking back on this experience for the rest of my life and I am so grateful to be able to play in that tournament.”

Levi arrived at Team Canada’s Selection Camp in Red Deer, Alberta with little fanfare. He had not been invited to the national junior team summer evaluation camp last July. As a result, many of his future teammates present at selection camp did not know of him at all when he first stepped onto the ice.
